Ever since I was a young girl I’ve been in love with Elvis. There was just something about him that had me glued to the tv. By the time I knew who he was, he was dead and gone but it didn’t change the fact that I found him mesmerizing. So of course a visit to Graceland was on my bucket list as an adult. Lucky for me I have a hubby that helps me check things off of that bucket list.
Graceland was the home of Elvis and Pricilla Presley located on none other than Elvis Presley Blvd. The house itself was built in 1939 for a Memphis socialite and sits on 13.8 acres of land. Elvis later purchased the home in 1957 for a mere $102,500.00.
Today a visit to Graceland will cost you anywhere from $42.50 – $180.00 per person depending on which tour you choose. We went with the tour that gave us access to all there was to see, including the 2 airplanes that are on the property.
Getting into Graceland isn’t just a walk through the famous music note gates. Actually you can’t even walk up the driveway. We snapped this picture of us in front of the gates quick in between the parade of busses that go back and forth crossing the street from where you actually enter Graceland. That’s right, you have to hop on a little tour bus to get over to the house. Little tidbit we did not know.
A nice memorial plaque is posted outside of the walls of Graceland. If you look closely at the wall behind it, you can see a multitude of signatures of Elvis fans from years of visitors to the famous home.
This staircase is what you see when you enter the front door. Entrance to the upstairs is not allowed. It’s said that only 3 people are allowed upstairs, Priscilla, Lisa Marie and Graceland’s curator.
I was truly amazed at the interior of this home. The dining room above is the first room off to the left when you come through the front door.
To the right after you enter the home you will find the formal front room and music room. The front part of the of the house is my favorite. It’s bright with all the white furniture, rugs, and floors.
As you move further back into the house through the dining room, you come to the kitchen area. As you can see it is decorated in true 70’s style.
Just past the kitchen you will find the jungle room. I will admit that the interior of Graceland was not what I expected at all. Each room throughout the home was eclectic in having a different theme.
The above photo is of the billiard room. If you take a good look at it you will see that the walls and ceiling are fabric. There is more than 300 hundred yards of fabric covering the walls and ceiling in this room. It took three men ten days to hang and staple the fabric in here.
This is Elvis’ media room. I suppose it was his idea of a man cave with all the tv’s, seating and bar that is just out of the photo to the right.
The final resting place of Elvis Presley is now at Graceland in the meditation garden where he lies between his father Vernon and his Aunt Mae.
Tim and I toured all of Graceland and took so many photos. We even ate lunch at Glady’s Diner on the Graceland grounds. I could go on for hours with the photos and our experience but that would spoil it. So instead of showing you the rest of the grounds I’d like to invite you to go take a tour of Graceland yourself.
Don’t forget to take a look around his auto museum while your there. He had some amazing cars in his collection.
